About the role

Provide quality outpatient clinical care by assessing, diagnosing, and treating patients, prescribing appropriate medications, performing minor medical procedures, maintaining accurate patient records, promoting preventive healthcare, and collaborating with the healthcare team to ensure safe, compassionate, and evidence-based patient care in accordance with Kenyan Ministry of Health and Clinical Officers Council guidelines.

Responsibilities

  • Assess, examine, diagnose, and manage patients presenting with acute and chronic medical conditions.
  • Prescribe medications and treatment plans in accordance with national treatment guidelines.
  • Perform minor surgical and medical procedures within the scope of practice.
  • Request, interpret, and utilize laboratory and diagnostic investigations to guide patient management.
  • Provide emergency and first-line lifesaving care when required.
  • Counsel patients on disease prevention, treatment adherence, and healthy lifestyle practices.
  • Maintain accurate, complete, and confidential medical records.
  • Refer patients appropriately when specialized care is required and follow up on referrals.
  • Participate in maternal and child health, immunization, and other preventive healthcare programs where applicable.
  • Ensure compliance with infection prevention and control protocols.
  • Collaborate effectively with nurses, laboratory personnel, pharmacists, and other healthcare professionals.
  • Participate in quality improvement initiatives and continuous professional development.
  • Ensure compliance with Ministry of Health policies, Clinical Officers Council regulations, and the facility's standard operating procedures.

Qualifications

  • Diploma or Bachelor's degree in Clinical Medicine and Surgery.
  • Registered and licensed by the Clinical Officers Council (COC) with a valid practicing license.
  • Good clinical and communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team.
  • Previous experience in a busy outpatient facility is an added advantage.
