Midwife Nurse

About the role

Provide safe and quality maternal and newborn care, including antenatal care, care during labour and delivery, postnatal care, newborn care, health education, and appropriate referral of mothers and babies in line with Ministry of Health and Nursing Council of Kenya guidelines.

Responsibilities

• Provide antenatal and postnatal care to mothers.
• Monitor mothers and babies during pregnancy, labour, delivery, and after delivery.
• Conduct normal deliveries within the nurse's scope of practice.
• Provide immediate and routine care to newborns.
• Identify danger signs and complications and refer appropriately.
• Provide family planning and reproductive health services within the scope of practice.
• Educate mothers on breastfeeding, nutrition, hygiene, newborn care, and danger signs.
• Maintain accurate and confidential patient and maternity records.
• Maintain cleanliness and follow infection prevention and control procedures.
• Ensure maternity equipment and supplies are available and properly maintained.
• Work closely with clinical officers, laboratory staff, pharmaceutical technologists, and other healthcare providers.
• Participate in maternal and child health and other preventive healthcare activities.
• Participate in quality improvement activities and continuous professional development.
• Ensure compliance with Ministry of Health policies, Nursing Council of Kenya requirements, and the facility's standard operating procedures.

Qualifications

• Diploma or Bachelor's degree in Nursing and Midwifery.
• Registered and licensed by the Nursing Council of Kenya (NCK) with a valid practicing license.
• Good nursing, midwifery, and communication skills.
• Ability to work independently and as part of a healthcare team.
• Previous experience in maternity or outpatient care is an added advantage.
