About the role

Provide quality laboratory services by collecting and testing patient samples, performing routine laboratory tests, recording and reporting accurate results, maintaining laboratory equipment and supplies, following proper safety and infection prevention procedures, and working with the clinical team to support proper diagnosis and patient care in line with Ministry of Health and KMLTTB guidelines.

Responsibilities

  • Collect, receive, label, and process patient samples correctly.
  • Perform routine laboratory tests accurately and report results on time.
  • Prepare and handle laboratory reagents, equipment, and supplies properly.
  • Check and maintain laboratory equipment to ensure it is working properly.
  • Record and maintain accurate laboratory results and patient records.
  • Follow proper sample collection, storage, and disposal procedures.
  • Maintain proper laboratory hygiene, safety, and infection prevention practices.
  • Identify and report abnormal or critical laboratory results promptly to the relevant clinician.
  • Work closely with clinical officers, nurses, pharmacists, and other healthcare staff to support patient care.
  • Monitor laboratory stock and report shortages of reagents, supplies, and other laboratory materials.
  • Participate in quality control and improvement activities within the laboratory.
  • Maintain patient confidentiality and handle laboratory information appropriately.
  • Participate in continuous professional development and training.
  • Ensure compliance with Ministry of Health policies, KMLTTB requirements, and the facility's standard operating procedures.

Qualifications

  • Diploma or Bachelor's degree in Medical Laboratory Sciences.
  • Registered and licensed by the Kenya Medical Laboratory Technicians and Technologists Board (KMLTTB) with a valid practicing license.
  • Good laboratory, analytical, and communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team.
  • Previous experience in a busy outpatient laboratory is an added advantage.
